NotesA birth registration was found for Hilda Pearl Banks: Date: Apr-May-Jun 1909; District: Newhaven; County: Sussex; Volume: 2b; Page: 163. Parents: Charles Henry Banks and Ada Lambourne, married 1908, at Sevenoaks, Kent, England.

Ada Banks, a 34 year old widow, sailed on the Carmania in 1920 from Liverpool. She was a widow who intended to do domestic work. She paid for her own passage and was heading to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where she had a sister, Mrs. Adams, and brother-in-law, 514 Heatley Avenue. Ada was born in Seaford, Sussex, and could read and write. She was 5ft 4in tall, had medium complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair and a mole on the right side of the neck. Her nearest relative in England was her father-in-law Albert Banks.

In 1921, Hilda Pearl Banks, 12, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 134 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was declared that she was 4-1/2 years of age; that she had been born in Eastbourne, England; that her intended occupation was school; that her object in going to Canada was to rejoin her mother; that she was destined to Mrs. Hobday, Hazel Brae, Peterboro, Ontario, Canada; and that her nearest relative in England was her grandfather, Albert Banks, who resided at 62 High Street, Seaford, Sussex, England.

[EDITORS NOTE: Brother, Harry Banks, and sister, Ivy Melisa Banks, were sent by Barnardos to be reunited with their mother (see their individual database listings). The last sibling, Albert Banks, 14, arrived at St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, unaccompanied, and en route to his mother, Mrs. May, who was residing at 747, 14th Avenue East, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. A juvenile inspector reported that "he has secured a position with a view to learning the boot-making and shoe repairing trade with a friend of the family who has a small business of this kind in N. Vancouver."]

Hilda went from Peterboro, Ontario, Canada, to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, to join her mother Mrs T. K. [Thomas Kenzie] May. [EDITORS NOTE: Ada Banks married Thomas May on June 7, 1922, at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.]

In 1925 Hilda was employed at a candy factory dipping chocolates. After 1-1/2 years at the candy factory, Hilda returned to school and in November, 1926, had taken a position with BC Electric Railway in the Cancellation Deptartment.
