Claude Granville Barber was baptized at St. Marks, Battersea Rise, Wandsworth, London, England. Mother: Beatrice Annie Barber.

In 1920, Claude Granville Barber, 15, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of 38 boys from the National Childrens Home & Orphanage, en route to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He declared that his current occupation was as a labourer; that he was born in Clapham, London, England; that his passage was paid by the National Childrens Home; that he was destined to the NCHO, Box 55, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; and that his nearest relation was his foster mother, Mrs. Everett, Abbotsbury Terrace, Mill Lane, Cheshunt, Middlesex, England.

When Claude Granville Barber completed his 4 years in Canada he returned to England, married & raised a family of 4 children. His youngest child Pat eventually emigated to Canada and was able to bring him over a few times before he died. He took him to visit the farm he worked at in Rock Chapel(near Hamilton), he was one of the lucky ones in that the farmer & his wife treated him as if he was their son.
