Gertrude Emily Barth was baptized on August 16, 1891, at St. John the Evangelist, Brixton, Surrey, England. Parents: George William Barth and Ellen Julia Barth.

Ellen Julia Bowley Barth died in 1896 at the age of 33 in Surrey, England, of tuberculosis and heart problems. George became ill, and in 1896 Evelyn, Ellen, Gertrude and Ethel Barth were admitted to Barnardos. George visited them until his death on February 9, 1898, at Camberwell, Surrey, England.

In 1903, Ellen Violet Barth, 8, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 19 Barnardo children en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

On March 10, 1915, at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Ellen Violet Barth, 20, born in England to Charles and Ellen Julia Barth; and Frederick Charles Sage, 23, painter, born in England to John Sage and Martha Lambert.
