NotesOrphan 1870's-80's. Originally from Italy where her father was a glass maker. Moved to (Liverpool) England, where mother died of tuberculosis. Her father could not look after 4 children and handed them over to Barnardos. Father returned to Italy.

In April 1880, Lizzie Barzarkie, 7 along with her sister Catharine Barzarkie, 10 arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in a group travelling with Louisa Birt en route to Knowlton, Quebec. Her brother Charles (aged 2) and sister Tereza (aged 4) followed in August of that year aboard the Sardinian.

Lizzie was adopted by Hazelwood and Hannah Kemp from Carp, Ontario, Canada on May 11, 1880. She used the surname Kemp from that period on.

Married John Wesley Kemp (son of Hannah and Hazelwood Kemp) in July 1893.
