In 1881, Alice Blaber, 6 years of age, was shown residing at Bell Green, 1 Crown Terrace, Sydenham, Lewisham, London, England. Other family members included: Fanny Blaber, 28, dressmaker; Flora Blaber, 11 months; and Thomas Blaber, 29, labourer/gas works. Alice Blaber was admitted to Barnardos because her Mother was destitute after her husband died. When Barnardos went to investigate they found only a table and a bed and the children had no boots or stockings and very little clothes.

In 1886, Alice Blaber, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 59 Barnardo girls en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

In 1891, Alice Blaber, 15, was shown as a domestic to Henry and Ann Barnard of Monaghan South, Peterborough West, Ontario, Canada.

On March 29, 1900, at Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Alice Blaber, 25, born in England to Thomas Blaber and Fanny Elliot; and another home child, Henry Joseph Scates, 26, farmer, born in England, to Edward Scates and "Mrs. Green".

In 1901, Alice H. Scates, 25, is shown residing at Cavan, Durham, Ontario, Canada, along with her husband, Henry J. Scates, 27, farm labourer. Her date of birth is shown as August 10, 1875, and her immigration year as 1885.

a daughter Anna Bella was born to the couple on August 1 1901

a 2nd daughter named Florence Marjory was born on Feb 7 1904
