NotesIn 1900, Eleanor Bowden, 14, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 121 Barnardo girls from London, Mile End, Whitechapel, England, workhouses, and en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

Eleanor Bowden became a maid at Glanmore, which was then a private home.

"She was found in the street shivering and taken to the orphanage," said Melissa Wakeling, Glanmore's museum education and marketing co-ordinator.

"Her mother was unable to look after her and her father had died," Wakeling said.

At age 14 Bowden had the mammoth job of tending to the 10,000-square-foot house and its owners.

"She described working here as her happy days," said Wakeling. A permanent basement display in the museum is dedicated to Bowden.

[POSSIBLE MATCH] On March 25, 1907, Eleanor May Bowden gave birth to an illegitimate child named Florence Bowden in Burnside Hospital, Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada.

On January 17 1912, Eleanor May Bowden, 26, daughter of James Bowden, married Daniel Bernard Shea, 19, son of Michael Shea and Johanna Sinnott, in Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario
