Sent to Canada as her family could not look after her. Ada was born out of wedlock and was cared for by her grandfather, Edwin. He became unwell and was too ill to care for Ada. As a result Ada was sent to the Barkingside Girls' home and was under the care of Barnardo's homes.

Her mother also had several other children (some also illegitimate). Some were placed in the care of Sutton Schools.

In 1891, Ada Bradshaw, 1 year of age, was residing at 95 Roan Street, Greenwich, London, England.
