Notes Mother: Hannah Buckley.
In 1923, Norah Buckley, 14, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of Middlemore children, 62 boys and 12 girls.
Adopted by Steven and Catherine Dawes.
On the 19th of February, 1929, at Canning, Nova Scotia, Canada, a marriage was registered between Nora Helen Buckley, 20, nursemaid, born in Birmingham, England to Steven Buckley and Kathleen Taylor; and Aubrey DeLancy Brewster, 41, laborer, born in Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada, to Asher Brewster and Ellen Langley.
A friend said: "When I discovered her history, almost by accident, she was reluctant to talk about it very much, as if she was ashamed of being sent over here in that manner. Her's was not a happy story to begin with but ended up by her raising a family, and leaving a legacy that at the time of her death at age 97 included eight children, 41 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren, and 41 great great grandchildren. What an amazing person she was, as were all the home children."
Nora Helen Buckley Brewster died April 8, 2005, at the age of 96, in New Minas, Nova Scotia, Canada. Her obituary was published in the Chronicle-Herald/Mail Star on April 11, 2005:
