On July 30, 1917, at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, John Burgess, 18, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided at Lowe Station, Quebec, Canada; that he was born in Hampshire, England; that his next of kin was his brother, Thomas Burgess, who resided at Fieldville Post Office, Lowe Station, Quebec, Canada; that his date of birth was September 24, 1898; that he was a farmer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 8 inches; ruddy complexion; blue eyes; fair hair; he had 5 vaccination marks on his left arm, scars, and moles over left crest iluim. and 1 over right crest iluim. He was not a member of any religion.

On July 30, 1941, at Port-du-Fort, Quebec, Canada, a marriage was registered between John Burgess, of Martindale, of age, son of William Burgess and Catherine Arnold; and Margaret Mary Piche, of Port-du-Fort, minor daughter of the late Thomas Piche and Elizabeth Jane Owen.

John William Burgess born Sept 24 1897 in Winchester, England. He came to Canada at the age of 14 on the Lake Manitoba in 1911. At age 18 in 1915 he joined the army and served in France for three years. d: 31 March 1984 86 years.

Married Margaret Piche children: Leo, Hugh, Ruth, Bruce (d 29 Oct 1963), George, John, Delmer, Orval, Alice, Steven.
