The children were placed at Eltham Park Home. Six of their sisters were put in a convent, but none of the sisters became home children.

In 1909, John B. Burt, 10, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 47 Catholic children en route to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. (Brother Gerald Burt, 12, arrived on the Hesperian on July 11, 1915.)

In 1911, John Burt, 13, was shown as the adopted son (Fils Adoptif) of Edmund and Irine Huton of Paroisse De St. Saline, St. Brigide, St. Jean and Iberville, Quebec, Canada. His date of birth is shown as April 1897 and his immigration year as 1909.

John and Gerald were placed on separate farms in Quebec. Jack (John Bernard) Burt taken "off books" December 31, 1916 (he turned 18 that year).

Another brother moved to Canada in 1920 to get "the boys" off the farms and had hoped to start his own farm in Stanbridge, Quebec, but he never actually started to farm.

Jack loved the people with whom he lived and he stayed on with them for several more years. Gerald was abused by his "farm family" and he told his brother that he would move in with him but he would never work on a farm again.
