John Callan, aged 8, from Lanchester Union, placed with P. Desrosiers, St. Luce, Rimouski Co., in 1884. Still there, good place, good health, quite happy, well clad, goes to school."
On March 2, 1916, at Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, John Callan, 40, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided at 206 Jackson Street W., Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in London, England; that his next of kin was his friend, Lottie Wilson, who resided at the St. Regis Hotel, North Clark Street, Chicago, Illinois, USA; that his date of birth was February 29, 1876; that he was a stage director; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 9-3/4 inches in height; dark complexion; grey eyes; dark brown hair. He was a member of the Church of England. He had 4 vaccination marks on his left arm; tattoo spots back of his left wrist; old dislocation of right wrist with no functional impairment; and a small scar on his right groin.
