In 1892, Alfred Cater, 9 (along with brothers, Thomas Cater, 10, and William Cater, 11), arrived at Quebec, along with a group of 85 children from Middlemore Home in Birmingham, England, en route to Macpherson Home in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. (This is an unusual circumstance for Middlemore children to be placed in Stratford, Ontario.)

In 1901, Alfred Cater, 19, is shown as a farm servant to William and Jane Ash of Bosanquet, Lambton, Ontario, Canada. His date of birth is shown as June 19, 1881, and his immigration year as 1891.

In October of 1905, Alfred's mother, Sarah Cater, and siblings, Beatrice Cater; Harold Cater; and Eva Cater, all arrived in Canada on the Bavarian. The Family settled in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. (EDITORS NOTE: Sarah Warner Cater died in Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada, on October 16, 1926, of hernia hemiplegia and heart failure.)

On May 9, 1910, Albert Cater, 26, laborer, resident in Saskatchewan, Canada, returned to Canada from England on the Laurentic, landing in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

On March 11, 1911, Albert Cater, 27, resident of Macklin, Saskatchewan, Canada, returned from England on the Virginia.

Albert's sister, Beatrice Maud Cater, married another home child, Joseph McCandless, in Gueph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada, on August 15, 1923.
