In 1891, Laura Chandler, 5 years of age, was residing at the home of George Drayton, 46, widower, general labourer, 9 Barkers Entry, Humber, Yorkshire, England, along with her brothers, Arthur Chandler, 2; and George Chandler, 4. (Source: 1891 Census of England; Class: RG12; Piece: 3934; Folio 82; Page 11; GSU roll: 6099044.)

In 1897, Laura Chandler, 12, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 16 children from Church of England Waifs and Strays Society accompanied by Mrs. Francis and en route to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario and Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada.

In 1901, Laura Chandler, 15, is shown as a domestic to William and Sarah Richardson of Grantham, Lincoln & Niagara, Ontario, Canada. Her date of birth is shown as December 26, 1886, and her immigration year as 1897.

On November 24, 1904, at St. Catherines, Lincoln, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Laura Elizabeth Chandler, 18, born in England, and who came from a home and never saw either parent; and James Felix Grove, 27, carpenter, born in England to John Grove and Nettie Robins. (may have been home child James Groves, 17, who arrived in 1895 on the Parisian with another boy from Tiffield Reformatory, near Towcester, Northamptonshire, England.)

In 1911, Laura E. Groves, 26, was shown residing at Grantham, Lincoln, Ontario, Canada, along with her husband, James F. Groves, labourer; and children: Elsie M. Groves, 8; Morris H. Grove, 4; George C. Groves, 4 months. Her date of birth is shown as December 1889 and her birthplace is shown as Ontario.

James and Laura Grove had at least 4 children: Maurice Henry Grove, born March 1, 1907; Arthur James Grove, born September 1905 and who died on October 16, 1905, of accident suffocation; Elsie M. Grove, 1903; and George C. Grove born, 1910.

On December 26, 1925, John James Grove, aged 50, died at Christie Street Hospital, St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada, of carcinomatosis (a condition in which cancer is spread widely throughout the body, or, in some cases, to a relatively large region of the body) with septic ulcer, general carcinomatosis and myocardial failure. The informant was his wife, Mrs. L. E. Grove, who resided at 44 Cassidy Street, St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada.

Laura Elizabeth Chandler Grove, widow, died at General Hospital, St. Catherines, Lincoln, Ontario, Canada, on January 1, 1934, at the age of 45, of lobar pneumonia, 14 days, and general debility. Her father's name may have been John Chandler. The informant was her son, George Grove, who resided at 44 Cosby Avenue, St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada. She was buried at a cemetery in St. Catherines.
