In 1901, George F. Charman, 5 years of age, was residing at 32C Spencer Road, Horsham, Sussex, England. Other family members included: Agnes Charman, 39; Albert Charman, 2; Thomas Charman, 39, bricklayers labourer; Thomas J. Charman, 8; William H. Charman, 11. In 1908, G. Charman, 11, arrived in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, along with a group of 75 children from Mr. Fergus' House to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, accompanied by Mr. Cardiman.

In 1911, George Charman, 15, was shown as a servant / labourer on farm to Lewis J. and Maud Buckley, of Clarke, Durham, Ontario, Canada. His date of birth is shown as February 1896, and his immigration year as 1908.

On January 5, 1916, George Frewin Charman re-enlisted (he had previously served for one year in the 37th Battlion) in the Canadian Armed Forces (Service Number: 805025; Force: Army; Unit: Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment); Division: 87th Bn.) He declared that he was residing in Orono, Ontario, Canada; that his next of kin was his father, Thomas Charman, who resided at 74 Spencer Road, Horsham, Sussex, England; that he was born on February 25, 1895; that he was a farmer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 5 inches in height; clear complexion; blue eyes; black hair. He was a member of the Methodist faith. He had a distinguishing "mark underneath left side of chin."

On February 9, 1916, at Port Hope, Durham, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between George Frewin Charman, 21, soldier, born in Horsham, England, son of Thomas and Agnes Charman; and another home child, Alice [Maria] Wilson, 17, born in Liverpool, England, daughter of John Henry Wilson and Mary Williams.

Private George Frewin Charman died on March 24, 1917, in France. He is buried at VILLERS STATION CEMETERY, Pas de Calais,France (Grave Reference: VII. F. 30.)
