Ephraim appears in 1901 Census living as an inmate in the Sheffield Homes for Children at Brightside Bierlow, Yorkshire, aged 10.

Two of Joseph & Mary's children were taken to Canada by Dr Bernado's on the Ship "Dominion" - info is contradictory as it shows Emily aged 10 leaving Liverpool on 24 May 1906 arriving Quebec to Toronto 3 Jun 1906, and Ephraim leaving Liverpool 23 Sep 1903 aged 11 arriving Quebec to Toronto 2 Oct 1903.
