Notes Dorothy Irene, Alice Maud & John Stanley (Jack) Cressy were all sent to Canada from England by Barnardo's home. Their mother had two children, then been abandoned by her husband, and eventually entered into a relationship with another man. With him she had 4 more children. When he was to enter the workhouse in 1906, she could no longer care for the children and they were split up. The two oldest went to live with grandparents, the youngest stayed with their mother and the three middle children were admitted to Dr. Barnardo's home on October 4th 1906. They stayed in England until 1911 when they were sent to Canada.
Dorothy was my maternal grandmother.
