NotesHis father, a ship's steward, became ill on a voyage to the US and died in Philadelphia in 1878. William, his brother George and sisters Lizelda and Annie were all sent with Mrs. Birt. Another brother Frederick followed in 1888.

William was married but did not have children.

William Walter Dagnall was injured when he was crushed by a load of lumber falling from a truck in Coupeville, Washington, on March 30, 1930. He died in General Hospital in Everett, Snohomish, Washington, on March 31, 1930.
