Mary, Sarah and James Devlin were sent to Quarriers Home at Bridge of Weir in 1888. They had lost their mother to complications of childbirth and their father to his having been kicked by a horse.
In 1889, James Devlin, 7 (along with sisters, Mary Devlin, 11 and Sarah Devlin, 13) arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 123 Quarrier children en route to the Distributing Home for Scottish Children, Fairknowe, Brockville, Ontario, Canada.
In 1891, James Devlin, 9, was shown as a domestic to Wm. W. and Prisilla A. Halliday of Wolford, Leeds and Grenville North, Ontario, Canada.
James Devlin was found to be diabetic and was returned to Scotland where he died. He is buried at Quarriers Home at Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire, Scotland.
