Parents: William Henry Downing and Gertrude Helena Ritchin, married 1879, St. Saviour, London, England.

William Henry Downing died August 3, 1891, in St. Thomas Hospital, London, England.

On March 1, 1894, Alice Downing was admitted to Norwood School, Lambeth Union. On May 9, 1895, Eva and Ernest Downing were admitted to Norwood School, and Violet Downing was admitted to the Workhouse.

Their mother, Gertrude Target(t), was in Cane Hill Asylum. (Gertrude died there on May 13, 1939.) An aunt, Mrs. Andrews, resided at 36 Montpelier Road, Peckham, England.

On June 7, 1897, Violet Downing was admitted to the Infirmary. She died May 11, 1898.

On June 6, 1899, Eva was discharged to the care of an aunt, Mrs. Woodger, who was visiting England from Milwakee, Wisconsin. Eva was readmitted on September 25, 1900.

On January 7, 1901, Alice Downing was discharged to service with Mrs. Adams, 227 Gipsy Road, Norwood, England.

On May 28, 1902, Ernest and Eva Downing were discharged to Barnardo's Home.

In 1902, Eva Downing, 10 (along with brother, Ernest Downing, 11) arrived at Boston, Massachusetts, USA, in a large group of 395 Barnardo children en route to Toronto and Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

Evelina Downing married Frank Hammond in Alberta, Canada. They had at least 4 children: Fanny Hammond, born about 1911; Dorothy Hammond, born about 1913; Edith Hammond, born about 1914; and Francis Hammond, born about 1915.
