In 1887, Thomas Foan, 9, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of 32 children accompanied by Miss Stirling with the Edinburgh and Leith Children's Aid and Refuge and en route to Hillfoot Farm, Aylesford, Nova Scotia.
Family history says that when he was 15, his grandfather, with whom he was residing, died and Thomas shipped out as a cabin boy on a passenger liner. He lived in Boston for a while, then moved to Ottawa, and ended up in Saskatchewan.
On September, 1900, Thomas W. Foan arrived at the port of Boston, Massachusetts, USA, on the ship Saxonia. He declared that he a laborer; that he had been born in London, England; that he was in transit to New Brunswick, Canada; and that he carried $250.00 on his person.
Thomas William Foan married Leorne May Cathcart (born 1886 in Ontario to William and Emily Cathcart) about 1906 in Saskatchewan, Canada.
At least 3 children were born of this marriage: Clarence W. Foan, born about 1908; Nina Inez Foan, born about 1909; and Ramon Ivan Foan, born November 26, 1913, in Saskatchewan, Canada, died November 2, 1990, in White Rock, British Columbia, Canada.
Thomas William Foan died on February 1, 1953, at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
