In 1924, Robert George Francis, 10, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 88 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He declared that he was born in Islington, London, England; that his intended occupation was farm work; that he was destined to his friend, Mr. J. W. Hobday, 538, Jarvis Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and that his nearest relative was Dr. Barnardo's Homes, Guardians, 18/26, Stepney Causeway, London, E.1, England.

On May 7, 1938, at Welland, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Robert George Francis and Vera Pauline Barwell, daughter of Thomas Barwell and Mary Etta Boose.

Robert's son, Dr. R. Douglas Francis, is a History Professor at the University of Calgary. He has wrote about his father in the book: Journeys: A History of Canada
