NotesWilliam's parents were brass worker John Alfred Gallett (1873-1905) and his wife Catherine Elizabeth Sockett (1879-1939). His parents were estranged soon after his birth. Catherine moved back to Huntington Cannock with Williams and his siblings (Clara and Alfred) to live with her parents. We don't know his movements after this. His father died three years before the sailing. For some reason William must have ended up in a Middlemore home. The family story is that he went to Canada because he was naughty. Catherine must have sent him back to Birmingham - perhaps with John's parents? before he finally went to the children's home. He returned to the UK and visited family members c1950's. THe family also think he went to be a prison officer on the Isle of Wight. There is a death cert for a William Gallett living on the Isle of Wight who was a retired bus cleaner who died in 1967. It's not clear if this was indeed our William Gallett.
