Notes A birth registration was found for Thomas Collins S Gilmore: Year of Registration: 1893; Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec; District: Aston (1837-1924); County: Warwickshire; Volume: 6d; Page: 226. (Parents: Thomas Gilmore and Martha Emma Eldred, married 1893 in Aston, Warwickshire, England.)
In 1903, Thomas Gilmore, 10, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 57 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Barnardo's kept reports on Thomas and his well-being until about 1910 when he seemed to disappear. It was family legend that he had died in World War I, but no documentation exists which supports this. For 19 years, his mother made numerous visits to Barnardos trying to make contact with her son, enquiring as to why he did not write to her.
