On the 1911 Sicilian manifest, Hilda says she has a sister, but her residence is unknown. Hilda is described as having a fair complexion, fair hair and grey eyes and was born in London.

In 1911, Hilda was shown as domestic for Thomas Hills and family in Percy, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada.

On May 10, 1919, a marriage was recorded in St. Thomas, Elgin, Ontario, Canada, between Hilda Mary Godfrey and Roy Claude Gray, a carpenter, 22 years of age (son of Arthur Gray and Mary Mathews). Hilda declared that she was born in New Brighton, England; that her parents were Omer Godfrey and Nina Kehoe.

On August 24, 1922, Hilda entered the United States through Detroit, Michigan. She stated she was married, had no occupation, that she was living in London, Middlesex, Ontario, and her nearest relation was her brother, Philip Godfrey, who was living in Sask., Canada. Her final destination was Detroit, Michigan, to visit her frient, Mrs. Sam Plant, in Detroit. She was described as 5 foot 5 inches in height, fair complexion, brown hair and blue eyes.
