Notes John Arnold Guest; born November 11 1911,Birmingham. England.to a 21
year old single mother. She looked after him for 4 1/2 years. When she
could no longer provide for him the workers of her Church referred her to
Middlemore Childrens Emigration Homes to take the child. John was in the
Homes for 4 years and was sent to Canada in May 1920 age 8 years, to work
on a farm near Port Hood, Cape Breton and later in New Brunswick.
John married, obtained land and a home, they raised 8 children. John
operated a small mixed farm. He had various jobs over the years; mining,
fishing, woods working, CNR railroad, caretaker of Glencoe Station, he also
worked at the Port Hood Post office. John was a councilor for the
Municipality of Inverness for 12 years.
John passed away in 1995 at the age of 84 years.
