Nelson Nathan Haley was baptized on January 27, 1878, at St. Mary Islington, London, England. Parents: John Alfred Haley, artificial florist, and Catherine Haley.

In 1893, Nelson Haley, 15, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of 36 children from the National Childrens Home, accompanied by Rev. Dr. Stephenson and en route to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

On April 5, 1897, Nelson N. Haley, 19, labourer, returned to the United Kingdom on the ship Lake Ontario.

Nelson and his brother, Henry, left for Australia about 1897 (Henry is shown on the ship Orizaba in December 1897).

Nelson Nathan Haley married Mary Josephine Kiely, daughter of Martin Kiely and Honora O'Toole, on June 17, 1903, at St. Stephen's Cathedral, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Three children were born of this marriage: Martin Nelson Haley, born July 7, 1905, at New Farm, Brisbane, Australia, died October 18, 1980, at Paddington, Australia; John Alfred Haley, born March 24, 1904, at Queensland, Australia; and Cecil Haley, born May 8, 1910, at Queensland, Australia.

Mary Josephine Haley died on May 14, 1930, at Queensland, Australia.

Nelson Nathan Haley married Minnie May Murray on June 24, 1931, at Queensland, Australia.
