NotesWalter Harvey was admitted to Norwood School, Lambeth Union, on April 29, 1897. His mother, Maud Susannah Harvey (born about 1870 at Buxton, Norfolk, England), deserted him. A friend, Mrs. Leonard, 313 Camberwell, New Road, had been caring for Walter since December 4, 1894. She had not seen his mother since January 8, 1897. (RO's Special Report #4527).

Walter was discharged to Barnardo's Home on August 1, 1900.

In 1900, W. Harvey, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 101 Barnardo boys en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

His mother, Maudie Susannah Harvey, was employed in 1901 (1901 Census of England; Class: RG13; Piece: 4524; Folio: 31; Page: 4) as a servant to Robert and Elizabeth Mesforth, Bridlington, Yorkshire, England. Maud married George Wrightson in 1907 at Bridlington, Yorkshire, England, and was residing with him at 7 Thorpe Street, Bridlington, Yorkshire, in 1911.

Sent by Lambeth Union, placed with Robert Parker, farmer, Napperton, Adelaide Twp, Middlesex, Ontario

March 17 1902

About 15 years of age, comfortable bachelors home, employed at chores, a fine, healthy looking boy, attends Methodist Church,
good character. Terms-$100 on 1st April 1906 and two years schooling. He appears to be getting along well, has attended school quite regularly, I understand. He appears to be only fairly well satisfied with his situation.
