NotesFamily records indicate that Alfred Charles Helmer was born June 26, 1884, in Devonport, Devon, England, to Emma Helmer, the unmarried daughter of James Helmore and Ann Bowden.

In 1896, Alfred C. Helmore, 10, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 254 Barnardo children accompanied by Mr. Owen and en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was placed with William E. Milligan, Hazeldean, Ontario, Canada.

On March 29, 1911, at Ottawa, Carleton, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Alfred Charles Helmore, 24, fireman, born to Alfred Helmore and Rosie Helmore; and Sarah Brownlee, 24, born to Albert Brownlee and Teressa Jardine.

Alfred and Sarah Brownlee Helmer had at least 2 children: Oral Helmer, born 1912 - died December 26, 1915, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, of pneumonia; and Baby Helmer, born and died December 17, 1919, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

On December 21, 1915, at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Charles Helmer, 27, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. Sarah Brownlee Helmer died December 24, 1919 at the age of 34 at the Ottawa Maternity Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, of a pulmonary embolism. She is buried at Beechwood Cemetery with her two children.

On November 23, 1922, at Ottawa, Carleton, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Charles Frederick Helmer, 35, trackman Ottawa Electric Railway, widower, born in Torquay, England, to Charles Edwar Helmer and Rose Thomson Helmer; and Lucy Young, 25, nursery governess, born in Dover, England, to William James Young and Emma Maria Barton.

Charles and Lucy Young Helmer had at least 3 children: Gordon James Helmer, born June 6, 1924 - died July 19, 1954; Edward Charles Helmer, born 1928 - died January 6, 1993; and Margaret Doreen Helmer.

Charles Alfred/Frederick Helmer died on December 16, 1946, at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He is buried at Pinecrest Cemetery, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
