NotesGeorge was born on July 25, 1911 to either Jane Parkin or Ann Parkin Henderson. He was illegitimate and his father may have been connected to the military and died before his birth. His mother kept him in her care for several years. In Oct 1921 George was issued a passport for Belgium and France. At some point he returned to England. In 1923 he arrived in Canada with a backpack, a poster note around his neck and 11 pence. We have no idea what circunstances led to this separation. Grandpa seldom spoke of his childhood in England but spoke of his mother with affection.

Grandpa never spoke of his time on the farms in Canada but remained close to his last placement - the McMillan family from Bayfield, Ontario. He continued to visit this family and their daughter until the 1970s. Grandpa briefly spoke of being a "hobo" and "joining the circus" but we have no evidence of theat. We do know he worked in hosiery in 1932. He worked on ships on the St. Lawerence. He met Anna, the love of his life somewhere around 1934 and they married in 1937.

In 1942 George Henderson wrote the Salvation Army in both England and Canada looking for his mother - with no answers. Another search in the 1960s also offered no information. He died in 1991 never receiving any information about what happened to his mother.
