GOT BARNARDO GIRL THROUGH A FARMER
Former Toronto Man Alleged to Have Procured Her From This City For Criminal Purposes

Special to the Star

Detroit, Mich, Sept 8 - John Brown, aged 50 years of Toronto,Ontario is under arrest in Port Huron, charged with bringing Ada Hollis, an 18 year old girl to the United States for immoral purposes. The girl was formerly an inmate of the Barnardo Home for Orphans at Toronto. It is alleged that Brown induced a farmer to secure the release of the girl, under the pretext that she would do domestic work at his home. Then, it is said, Brown gave her $20 and sent her to Port Huron, saying he would follow in a few days. After arriving in the city Miss Hollis went to one of the local hotels to await the man, who had promised to marry her. Learning of the case, the Barnardo Homes sent a matron to Port Huron who acquainted the authorities with the facts.

Chief of Police Mains had the girl brought to his office, where he had a lengthy conversation with her. She, at first, declined to discuss her future husband, but was finally induced to give her secret away. Chief Mains then sent officers to wait for Brown and when he alighted from the ferry boat he was arrested. Brown is a married man, and has four children. Owing to some trouble, husband and wife parted about two years ago. The four children are in different orphan homes in Canada. Mrs. Brown is employed in a hotel in Cheltenham. Miss Hollis was brought out with a party of Barnardo girls about three years ago.

On October 10, 1911, at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Ada F. Hollis, 23, cook, born to William Hollis and Jean Pendercrast; and Constant R. Olivean, 27, cook, born to Victor Olivean and Alexandrine Gentol.

Constant Rene and Ada Florence Olivean had at least one child: Eugene Olivean, born about 1909 in Canada.

Florence A Olivean and Rene Olivean became United States citizens (no dates recorded) in New York, New York, USA.
