In the 1901 Canadian census John Hollyfield is shown as adopted by George & June Laycup and living in Marquette, Manitoba, Canada. He gives his birth as June 2, 1887.
He does not appear in the 1911 census under either Laycup or Hollyfield.

He is described as 5 foot 3-1/4 inches in height; dark complexion; blue eyes; brown hair. He is Presbyterian by faith. He has distinguishing marks of a transverse scar, 2 inches long on outer surface of right arm.
