On August 19, 1916, at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Arthur Wisdon Ervine, 18, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided at Rural Route No. 2, Stittsville, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in Bideford, England; that his next of kin was his guardian, Dr. Barnard's [sic] home, 50-52 Peter's St., Toronto, Ontario, Canada; that his date of birth was March 21, 1898; that he was a farmer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 2-1/2 inches in height; medium complexion; blue eyes; brown hair. He was a member of the Church of England.

BARNARDO BOY WOUNDED

Pte. Arthur E. Ervine Hurt Second Time--Won Medal for Good Conduct

Word has been received at Dr. Barnardo's Home, 50 Peter street, that Pte. Arthur W. Ervine has been been wounded in the right arm by shrapnel. He enlisted with the 207th Battalion on October 28, 1917. On arriving in England he was transferred to the Canadian Infantry Battalion. Pte. Ervine is 20 years of age. He also won Dr. Barnardo's medal for good conduct. In August, 1918, he was wounded in the back by gunshot. Prior to enlisting he was employed by William Scharf, of South Marsh, Ont.

Pte. A. W. Ervine Dead

Pte. A. W. Ervine, who was recently reported wounded, has since succumbed to his injuries. He was 20 years of age, and prior to enlisting was employed by William Scharf, of South Marsh, Ont. He was a former Barnardo boy, and was a winner of Dr. Barnardo's good conduct medal.

He is buried at Manchester Southern Cemetery, Manchester, Lancashire, England. Grave Reference: S. 124.
