Notes Father, John Joseph, died leaving the mother and 7 children. Only one older child was working and he became ill. The family entered a workhouse. Mother eventually placed 3 siblings in Dr. Barnardo's and requested they all be sent to Canada together. Instead, they were sent on separate ships, and on separate dates. My father never knew he had siblings in Canada. He had been told (by whom?) that he was the only child placed in the orphanage, and believed he must have been "a bad boy". He was placed with a farmer and his wife (The English's) near Campbellford (Peterborough area). When old enough he left the farmer and having saved enough money for 1 year's tuition, entered the Peterborough Business College, where he graduated with honours. He moved to Toronto and worked for the Union Stockyards. Met and married Althea Sarah Williams, and their only child was born in 1933--Nadine Claire Joslyn. Dad died and was buried in Toronto. He never knew about the other two children--Minnie and John.
