NotesIn 1886, A Kimford, 15, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 9 boys from Barton Regis Union, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England, accompanied by Mr. Bird, and en route to Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

"Copy of Reports of Inspection of Pauper Children sent out to Canada made by Immigration Officers of the Dominion Government and received from the Colonial Office on the 12th December 1888.

Report of Mr. Samuel Gardner, Government Immigration Agent at St. John, New Brunswick.

Alfred Kempsford, aged 17. From Barton Regis Union. Placed with Peter Leddingham, Stonehaven, Victoria County.?Mr. Leddingham reports him hard to manage, gets sulky, and in this mood won't work; was going to turn him off but thought he would try correction; done so to let him know he was his master and not the boy ; it had its effect: he does his work, but is very slow. Very little life in him. This lad has a good home and he knows it. Mr. Leddingham is a splendid fellow and, if anything in the lad, he would make a man of him."
