Notes Thomas Laidlaw entered the Bridge of Weir Home (Quarriers) in Scotland on 4 June 1885.He was sent to Canada on 30 March 1887. He left Glasgow aboard the SS Siberian and arrived in Halifax, Canada, on 4 April 1887. He was placed on the George Cuthbertson farm near Perth, ON.
Thomas married Ellen Jane Boyce in Pakenham, Ontario, on 1 December 1897.They went on to have four children: George Thomas, William Harold (my grandfather), Laura Myrtle Josephine, and Ernest Albert Boyce Laidlaw.
Thomas served in World War 1 with the 73rd Royal Highlanders, enlisting in 1915. He suffered from trench fever and was gassed during the war. He had 13 surgeries between 1918 and 1936.
Thomas died in Ottawa on 14 July 1936.
