Herbert Clifford Langstone was admitted to Norwood School, Lambeth Union, London, England, on January 11, 1889. His mother, Julia Langstone, was chargeable [i.e. in the Workhouse] on and off up to February 25, 1896, when she was discharged with her child, but left it [him] in the Relief Hall. The mother was sent to a servant's home on March 25, 1896.
Herbert was discharged to Dr. Barnardo's Home on June 12, 1901.
In 1901, Herbert Langstone, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a large group of Barnardo children: 239 to Toronto, Ontario; 68 to Winnipeg, Manitoba; 20 to Russell, Manitoba; and 3 to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
Barnardo's UPS & DOWNS, Double Number VOL VIII APRIL - MAY 1902, No. 1 reported that Herbert Clifford Langstone had been placed with George A. Snarr, in Harold, Ontario, Canada.

Age 15, comfortable farm home, employed at general chores, good health, attends Methodist Church and Sunday School regularly, no schooling here as yet, good character, terms-$100 on 1st April 1906 and one years schooling. He appears to be thoroughly contented and happy here. His employer is only fairly satisfied with him and states he is keeping him in the hopes that he will improve. The last boy he had from Dr Barnardos Agency remained with him for seven years.

Herbert Clifford Langstone returned to England in November, 1903.
On January 15, 1915, Herbert Clifford Langstone, 26, farm laborer, residing at Colebrook Farm, (?), England, was drafted into the British Armed Forces. He was described as 5 foot 4 inches in height. He had no next of kin.
On March 15, 1915, he was given 48 hours detention. On March 17, 1915, he was discharged from the Army under Paragraph 392 IV(c) as "not likely to become an efficient soldier."
