13th January 1890

In accordance with your letter of instructions to me dated December 4th. I proceeded to Binds Hill on the 6th inst for the purpose of inquiring into the condition of a pauper lad named John Lee who was placed with Mr Waddington Clarke at the above place. Upon arriving at Binds Hill, I learned that Mr Clarke had come into town for the winter to attend College and had brought the lad with him and placed him the Rev Canon Clarke. I called at the residence of this gentleman and saw the boy, who appeared to be quite content and well cared for. I also learned from Canon Coombs that Mr Clarke with whom the boy was placed had come to town for the purpose of attending St John's College with a view to entering the Ministry and as he did not require the boys services any longer he had transferred him to Canon Coombs who appeared desirous of retaining the boy on his service, upon the same conditions as he was placed with Mr Clarke. I am sure the boy is in good hands as Mrs Coombs is a very nice woman and appears to take an interest in the lad, and also speaks well of him
