In August 1908, Leonard Mantie, 16, attempted to enter America, he gave his previous residence as Welland. and was a farm lab, he had no family in Canada or America, and had club feet. He was marked as debarred.

On June 5 1917, Leonard Percy Mantie was drafted into the USA Army, he stated he was born on July 6th 1892 in London. That he
was employed by Great Falls Power Company as a labourer. It was noted that he was crippled in his feet.
