A death registration was found for Eliza Martha Marchant: Year of Registration: 1875; Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar; Age at Death: 34; District: Croydon; County: Greater London, Kent, Surrey; Volume: 2a; Page: 144. [EDITORS NOTE: Thomas W. Marchant died in 1897.]

In 1887, Joseph Marchant, 13, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 18 children from Croydon Union Workhouse, Surrey, England, accompanied by Rev. R. F. Winter and en route to various places.

He declared that he resided at 108 Middle, Lancaster, Coos, New Hampshire; that he was 43 years of age; that his date of birth was December 27, 1874; that he was a naturalized citizen of the United States; that he was employed as a Locomotive Engineer for Maine Central Railroad; that his next of kin was Lettie Marchant, who resided at 108 Middle, Lancaster, Coos, New Hampshire. He was described as medium height; medium build; brown eyes; and nearly bald.
