NotesDaniel was awarded the DCM 2/2/1917. He corresponded with his mother in Scotland even though she gave him away when he was only 6yrs old.
She gave up all her first family when she married for a second time after Daniel's father Thomas was killed in a pit accident. She then went on to have a second family with George Phillips.
