NotesGertrude was in the Newport Union Workhouse in Wales from January 1910 until she went to Barnardo's in May 1911. Her father died in March 1908 and left her mother Mary Mayo with 6 children. Three were old enough to work and the 3 youngest went into the Newport Union Workhouse. The younger 2 girls were adopted by a nurse and her husband in Newport, Wales.
