Parents: Michael McCooey and Mary Stokes.

In 1901, Patrick McCooey, 7 years of age, was residing at 1 Union Terrace, South Everton, Lancashire, England. Other family members included: Bridget McCooey, 5; Mary McCooey, 31; Michael McCooey, 32, general labourer; (twin) Edward McCooey, 7; Thomas McCooey, 1; and, William McCooey, 3. (Source: 1901 Census of England; Class: RG13; Piece: 3480; Folio: 190; Page: 27.)

All of the McCooey children were separated by the Catholic Welfare Agency in 1901 in Kirkdale, Liverpool, England and held at a home called St. Vincent's Orphanage. Edward and Patrick McCooey were there until they were sent to Canada to be placed as farm workers at separate times. The twins never saw each other again once they left each other at St. Vincents Orphanage.

In 1907, Patrick McCovey, 14, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 58 children from the Catholic Emigration Association en route to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. (Brother Edward McCoovey, 12, arrived in 1905 with a group of 42 children from the Catholic Emigration Association, Coleshill, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, en route to St. George's Home, Hintonburg, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.)
