""Fifteenth Annual Report of the Local Government Board (1885-1886)

Report of Mr. John Smith, Government Immigration Agent at Hamilton, Ontario.

Jessie Stephens. Louise Collins. With Thomas Pritchard, N. Wakefield P. O. Township of Masham, Co. Ottawa, Province Quebec. These two children are remarkably well placed, found them well clothed, attend church and school."

Shows in the 1886 annual report for Miss Rye's Emigration Home for Destitute Little Girls, Peckham Surrey. Sent to Canada - Mr JJW, School Inspector, Simcoe,Ontario, to be trained for service. She ended up near Williamstown, Ontario with a MacPherson family. Family stories indicate that two sisters and a brother were also sent to Canada. Sisters names were Jane and Eliza, do not know brothers name.

1901 Census shows a Janie (with correction noted to Jessie) McDonald age 26 (which is out 2 years for age on ship register). Jessie/Janie is shown as being married with husband John and 3 children.

1911 Census shows a Jessie McDonald, with husband and 6 children and a sister (the listed sister could be sister in law as the last name on the census is shown as McDonald). One other note here is that one son named John J McDonald does not appear on this census, he would have been 14.

Her parents were Jemima Sharpe and George Stevens. She died in 1950.
