Notes Sent by Stepney Union
with John Cawley, farmer, P.O Dunraven, Pontiac, Calumet Island, Quebec
December 28 1900
Age 15, very satisfactory home, very neat, employed at lighter farm labour, health generally good, attends Roman Catholic Church,
six months schooling during past year, character-an obedient and truthful boy. Terms-Board and Clothing, receives pocket money.
This lad has a very suitable home, and many advantages here. Mr and Mrs Cawley appear to be much attached to him. They have no children of their own, and regard McDonnell as a son. McDonnell, who is an intelligent lad, states that he is well treated and thoroughly contented. He is well dressed, and otherwise bears evidence of careful attention from Mr and Mrs Cawley. He has a slight trace of what I think to be cattarh, but is otherwise quite healthy.
