NotesWalter is the younger brother of my great-great-grandmother. He, and later his younger brother Frederick, was sent to the Guthrie Home in London, Ontario.

Walter worked on a farm near London for the Dewar Family.

When he was about 22 yrs old his mother Phoebe and sister Eliza Agnes came to London and they lived together for a bit (1891 census). They must have had some contact after he left Birmingham. Phoebe's husband had died, about three years before Walter was sent here in 1876, and she probably couldn't look after all of her children. Maybe she was hoping for a better life for Walter.

Years later, my great grandfather, a nephew to Walter and Frederick, came to London looking for work. It would appear that his uncles were the main reason he came here, as there was no other apparent reason, and his descendants, including me, are all still here.

On February 19, 1896, at London, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Walter Millard, 29, hostler, residing at 198 Mt. Pleasant Street, London, Ontario, born in England to James Millard and Phoebe Thomas; and Frances Jane Bullis, 33, residing at 303 Bathhurst Street, London, Ontario, born in Canada to Daniel Bullis and Matilda Gainer.

In 1898, Walter Millard was shown on the Canada Voter List as residing at 12 Bathhurst, London, Ontario, Canada.

Walter and Frances Jane "Jennie" Bullis Millard's known children were Rosina May (a family name), and twins Frederick Monroe and Henry Daniel Millard, born September 3, 1899, in Middlesex, Ontario, Canada.

In May 1914, Walter Millard, 47, cement worker, crossed into the United States through the Port of Detroit, Michigan. He declared that he resided in London, Ontario; that his contact in Canada was his sister, Mrs. James Shoebottom, who resided at Elderton, Ontario, Canada; and that he was going to join his wife, Mrs. Walter Millard, who was residing at 102 Richmond Avenue, Detroit, Michigan.

On November 14, 1917, Henry Daniel Millard joined the Canadian Armed Forces, naming Walter Millard as his next of kin, and declared that he was residing at 38 Hobson Street, Detroit, Michigan, USA.
