NotesA birth registration was found for Fanny Monk: Date: Jul-Aug-Sep 1871; District: Guildford; County: Surrey; Volume: 2a; Page: 55.

In 1883, Fanny Monk arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 115 Middlemore children en route to various destinations. [EDITORS NOTE: The sailing information was obtained from the Middlemore Index (**) but this writer was unable to find reference to it on either the LAC or ships manifest. It is possible that this Fanny Monk was cited as Jane Monk, who arrived on the Sardinian on June 10, 1883, due to a transcription error on the part of the immigration officer.]

Fanny Monk, aged 15, from Guildford Union, placed with Mrs. Payne, Petrolla, Ontario; now with Mrs.Wm.Young, Mt. Bridges P.O., Ontario. This girl is strong and healthy and is getting quite useful and has a first class home; hired by the year, $30 per annum and three months schooling each year; goes to church (Presbyterian). Mrs. Young likes the girl and gives her a good character; she can read, write, and spell well, and is happy and contented."
