with Robert Gulliford, farmer, P.O Almonte, Lanark, Ontario

Age 15, good home, employed at farm chores, good health, does not attend church, the church being 9 miles distant, does not attend school, character untruthful and slow but anxious to learn. Terms-Board and Clothing. Except for being untruthful the boy gives fair satisfaction. He is improving all the time. He is obedient they say, and they like him very much. The boy says that he is well treated, and he likes his place

with Robert Guilliford, P.O Almonte, Lanark, Ontario

August 10 1900

This during the early part of last winter, Mr Guilliford could not state the date, but thought that it was about Christmas, deserted his employer, and his present whereabouts are unknown. About ten days after he left, Mr Guilliford says he notified the Home authorities, and was instructed by them to continue his enquiries, which he says he has done without success.

Miss Proctor advises the department that Thomas Nicholas has since returned to the Home, Hintonburgh and has been placed with John Doyle, P.O Gloucester, Ontario

with John Doyle, P.O Gloucester, Lot 23, Con 5, Gloucester Twp, Carleton, Ontario

December 31 1900

Age 16, comfortable plain home, employed at ordinary chores, good health, attends Roman Catholic Church, no schooling, character-a well behaved boy. terms-Board and Clothing. This boy has a very comfortable home here. The work is not very burdensome, he is well clothed and has nothing to complain of. He is inclined to be careless, and his employer does not find that he always can depend on him to do his work without being especially told. So far, however, he has done fairly well. He is an intelligent looking lad, but they find him a little slow in learning to do things. He has been here five months, and during that time they have provided him with a general outfit of clothing, and he is suitably dressed for the winter. He is a quiet lad, and is treated as one of the family

with Thomas Larkins, farmer, Fallowfield, Nepean, Carleton, Ontario

September 22 1902

Age 17, Nicholas was well placed with Larkins, but became dissatisfied and left, and has now, in my opinion a much inferior situation with a Mr Wallace, which I understand is only for three months. He states that he receives $5 per month wages and board. His personal appearance is not as favourable as when I saw him last year. I fear that he is a rolling stone.
