In 1901, George Painter, 5 years of age, was residing at 73 Granville Road, Willesden, Middlesex, England. Other family members included: Charles Painter, 11; Edith Painter, 27; Edith Painter, 3; Frank Painter, 1; Rose Painter, 9; and William Painter, 55, bricklayer's labourer. In 1905, the Kensington docked at Halifax, then Portland, where 269 boys, including George R. L. Painter, 9, disembarked. The original list was lost and a list prepared in 1934 appears on the reel.

On November 23, 1915, at Port Perry, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between George Robert Leonard Painter, 20, farmer, born in London, England, son of William Painter and Edith Leonard; and Violet Demretta Smith, 18, born in Keach, Ontario, Canada, daughter of Stephen Smith and Emanda Stephenson.
