NotesHarry Parker was born 24 Nov 1895 in the Union Workhouses of Sheffield, England. He is the third (known) child to a single pauper named Mary Ann Parker. Harry along with his older brother William Henry Parker and the eldest, a sister named Eliza Parker, were all admitted in and out of the Sheffield Children Home Hospital on numerous occasions. They are all listed as illegitimate upon their admissions. (Archive Record CA41 - 33 and 34 at the Sheffield Archives). Their birth registrations show all were born in the Workhouses and none had a father listed. Actually Harry's birth registration shows he was a year older than any documents of his stated. His brother William Henry celebrated his birthday on Jan 7 each year, when in fact it was Feb 10th - he was 2 years older than he knew himself to be!

In 1901, William Henry was eventually discharged at age 11 to the training ship called Southampton in Hull, and Eliza at age 14 was also discharged in 1901 to the Girls Friendly Society for service in Lincoln. Harry stays on in the Workhouse. It appears their mother may have married as she is next listed as Mary Ann Bramhall (late Parker) on the records in 1903 when Harry was again admitted (alone this time). He remained there for the next 7 years before being discharged to the Barnardo Homes on 01 April 1910. He was placed aboard the SS Sicilian in Liverpool on 28 May 1910, and set sail for the Port of Quebec arriving on 10 June 1910. He was placed with a farming family and also later worked for another relative of that farming family until his indentured time was complete. He enlisted with the C.E.F. of WWI and again for WWII. There is no marriage or known children for Harry. Did he ever find happiness? We can only assume. He lies at rest in the Soldier's Field in Maple Leaf Cemetery, in Chatham, Ontario.
