NotesMrs Cox wrote October 13, 1903 about my grandmother "seems healthy but, has a cold and a sty on her eye. Is a very sweeet, bright looking little girl. Conduct very good, truthful - good disposition. I hear nothing but praise of Edith and the child quite happy - is lovable and affectionate - and a very sweet little singer."

My mother was very artistic. She loved to write poetry, paint and she loved to sing. She was a very good mother to all nine of her children, myself being the youngest. She loved animals lovingly rearing a baby Robin to adulthood. She had a happy and young at heart disposition. She wore bright colours to celebrate her joy of life. She accepted change and coped with difficulties and always said she had a gypsy heart and wanted to travel.

My grandmother was very sweet and loving. I remember her singing lullabies to me and my sister and her other grandchildren. She always loved family gatherings. And she especially loved sneaking out of the house at 4:00 a.m. in the morning with my dad, myself and my sister to go fishing.

I later learned of her plight from Gateshead, England to Canada on the Dominion Ship with the Bernardo Family. I requested her file and received her story. The blanks of her story that she couldn't quite fill in herself. There were over twenty letters from 1915 to 1968 before her death written to Bernardo Homes requesting information about her mother and her brother George and the family she left behind. Through out her entire life, her hope and dream was to find her family. Although, responses were received , she never received the information she was so
desperately seeking. More than a century later, we are still looking for her family. And, I won't
stop until they are found.

Nana, your legacy lives on in all of us that were born from you. Your story will live on forever in our hearts.
